Borderwise is an online interface for preparing complete immigration applications based on answers to simple questions. Immigrants use Borderwise to prepare green card and naturalization applications for themselves. Once they’ve completed their application, it’s sent to an immigration lawyer in our network who carefully reviews it from top to bottom and then schedules a consultation with the user to discuss their application and next steps for filing it with USCIS.

We've been recognized by The Washington Post, Telemundo and Generocity for our social impact and innovative approach to immigration law.

Immigration lawyers also use our software to simplify legal paperwork for their own clients. Lawyers subscribe to Borderwise Pro for unlimited access to a comprehensive set of family, business and humanitarian immigration applications. Borderwise Pro is cloud-based and scalable. Lawyers can even customize it with their own logo and branding.

The first step is preparing your application. It's free to get started and only takes 30 - 60 minutes. Once you're finished answering all of the questions, you will pay and submit your application to one of our immigration lawyers. The attorney will begin reviewing your application and schedule your consultation within 24 hours. At that point, you will also be able to print your completed application and a complete checklist of todos.

The next step is the consultation. At the time of your consultation, you will meet with the lawyer assigned to your case either in person (if we have a location in your city) or via Google Hangouts. The consultation generally lasts approximately one hour but can take as long as you'd like. The lawyer will review your documentation with you, answer your questions and discuss next steps with you. The goal is to make sure that your documentation is in perfect shape and that you understand exactly what you need to do to submit it to USCIS.

If you have questions after the consultation, you can always come back!

Borderwise is free to get started, you will only pay once you're ready to submit your application to one of our immigration lawyers for review. The fee to prepare an attorney-reviewed family-based green card or naturalization application is $500. This includes all completed USCIS forms necessary for your case as well as your consultation and review with one of our immigration lawyers.

If you have additional questions after your consultation, we charge a fixed fee of $50 per 30 minute consultation.

The cost for an employment-based application is $985. If you would like to prepare an attorney-reviewed employment-based application, contact us at team@borderwise.co.

Currently you can prepare family-based green card applications and naturalization applications on Borderwise.

In addition, our employment-based and asylee adjustment of status applications are in limited beta. If you would like to apply for one of these, email us at team@borderwise.co.

In general, you can apply for a family-based green card if you have a:

  • spouse, child 21 years old or over, parent, or sibling that is a US citizen, or
  • spouse or parent that is a permanent resident (to be sponsored by your parent you must be unmarried)

Note that if you entered the US without inspection, you may also need a provisional waiver which is not prepared on Borderwise.

For employment-based immigration your employer must be willing to sponsor you. For humanitarian immigration you must either have already been admitted as a refugee or you must qualify for asylum in the United States and following that procedure you may be able to qualify for a green card after a certain length of time.

In order to apply for citizenship in the US, you either had to have been a permanent resident for five years and have lived inside the US for more than have of that time, and lived in the local district where you will be applying for at least three months.

You will have to pass civics and language tests and show that you're a person of good character.

We’re headquartered in Philadelphia, the first capital of our nation of immigrants. In addition, we have a network of immigration lawyers in New York, California, Florida and other states across the US. Visiting Philly? Come say hi!

We're a diverse, globe-spanning team of coders and lawyers with a wide range of skills, united by a shared passion for immigrant rights.

Our CEO, Jeremy, is an immigrant, front-end developer and tech entrepreneur. He previously founded Matchme Philanthropy, a free crowd-funding platform for non-profit organizations. He studied law and business at Penn Law and Wharton.

Our Chief Product Architect, James, has practiced immigration law for over 14 years. He’s an expert in the field, teaching continuing education courses on immigration law to lawyers. Before joining Borderwise, he was a private practitioner and did pro bono defense of asylum seekers.

Borderwise was founded when Jeremy needed a lawyer for his marriage-based green card. He found James. Now, they've set out to make legal paperwork easier for other immigrants like Jeremy and immigration lawyers like James.
