Q: I-797C application while in ICE detained

My husband file for a I-797C on October of last year. He got detained by ICe and he is in jail now. I got a letter from the USA department of homeland and security saying they received his application and approved it. Than yesterday I got another letter with a date for his finger prints. Today his immigration lawyer calls me and tell me he has court on the 25th of this month and that his application was denied by the immigration judge and that we need to file a new application. I am confused if I am getting this letters how is it possible that the judge denied the application. My lawyer didn't give me much of an explanation about why he denied it.
